This thesis establishes that audio books are becoming a popular form of encountering texts and therefore deserve to be studied. This examination, however, cannot function through an attempt to classify audio books in binary terms. Instead, a new framework will be created that combines several theoretical approaches in order to discuss the act of experiencing an audio book. No one theory can offer this complex subject the flexibility needed for applicability to different genres or situations. Instead, this framework uses adaptation, remediation, and media theories in its application to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling, read by Jim Dale, and A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose by Eckhart Tolle, read by the author. These applications will show that this multiple-theory approach allows for the complexities of this subject matter; therefore, it will provide an approach for future studies to examine, not only audio books but any text that occurs in multiple media.
